Hope everyone had a fantastic Columbus Day Weekend! I also hope you had the opportunity to be "still."
I was thinking this past weekend about "stillness." Stillness, a noun is defined as: devoid of or abstaining from motion; calm; tranquil; serene. So, the question I asked myself was "how often during the day, am I still?" I admit there aren't many.
We are so busy "doing what?" Yes, we are all bound by the chains of "must do this and have to do that" and it can be a challenge to take a few moments to be still.. We are compelled because of obligations, commitments and a "whole lot of guilt."
In thinking about "stillness" I realized that it's with us all the time. It never goes anywhere, it just is. Isn't that something? The stillness for us to "plug into" is ready and available. In an instant you can go from being completely "crazed" to absolute "calm" if you open the door. All we have to do is "turn the knob" and the "Hallway of Stillness" is there. It waits for our use; as a matter of fact, it cherishes the moments when we venture in. The Hallway is always waiting for us to walk it's corridor.
Humor me with the following: The next time you are feeling "absolutely crazed", I want you to stop, close your eyes and go to the "Hallway of Stillness." Even if you stay for only a few seconds, be "fully present" for those few seconds. As you look around, it seems that you see and hear nothing. However, if you listen really closely for those few moments and pay careful attention, I guarantee you will hear the voice of your Creator as it whispers to you: "Be still and know that I AM." That is why when you visit the Hallway of Stillness, you are immediately at peace. Because when you walk through that door; you are walking into your Creator's arms and you instantly feel you are welcomed to visit you anytime and anywhere. It's your Hallway of Stillness..Use it!
